Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we enter the fifth week of Lent, we are reminded of a movement towards the Holy Week. This period leading up to Easter Sunday is a time of contemplation that guides us and strengthens our dependence on Jesus. The death and miraculous rising of Lazarus (John 11 - 45) invites us to move from spiritual death to life. As the restoration of Lazarus is a sign of renewed hope for Mary and Martha, it invites us to see ourselves in them in their revived hope. We are also encouraged to see ourselves in Lazarus, whose life has been restored. The restoration of Lazarus’ physical life becomes, for us, a metaphor for breaking free from the bonds of spiritual death. In the face of death and despair, Jesus brings forth life and offers a glimpse of the eternal hope. As we journey through the final weeks of Lent, may we be inspired by the story of Lazarus. May it help us embrace hope in all its fullness, even when we feel disappointed by every challenge of life. And in the midst of those challenges, may we cling to the eternal hope that is found in Christ. May God continue to bless us, as we await with eager anticipation, the joy of Easter morning.
Rev Jairo Nyaongo
