The Curate's Letter - 07/01/2024

My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

So it is that time of year when we put down the mince pies and pick up the hot cross buns! Our tree is back up in the loft and the ban of singing Christmas songs at home has resumed. There are even Easter Eggs already in the supermarkets! Christmas, it seems, has come and gone for another year. However, my prayer for today is that amongst the commercialism, the need to eat unhealthy amounts of cheese and the navigation of the busyness that the festive season brings, that you now allow yourself time to pause. A time to pause, and to reflect on the fulfilling of many Old Testament prophecies of the coming of the Messiah. He, who would die upon a cross for you and for me. I have got into the habit of carving out some time to pause each morning by lighting a candle to remind myself that Christ is the Light of the World and whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life (John 8:12) So, wherever 2024 takes us on our individual journeys, may they be journeys where we know that Christ is alongside us.

Amen.

Rev’d Pate Farquhar
